SaaS vs GaaS: what is the difference?

SaaS means Software as a Service. Your team uses online applications to get work done: storing customer records, managing tickets or checking a calendar.

Agents as a Service gives you AI agents for defined jobs. They use business knowledge and approved tools to help complete tasks. People set the rules and review the results.

Aivah is an AI employee platform for businesses. Train an employee on your knowledge, choose its role and test it on real customer questions. It can qualify enquiries and take approved actions through supported connections.

What is GaaS? The Agents as a Service model

GaaS is an emerging term. In the software debate, it often means Agentic AI as a Service. Aivah uses Agents as a Service to describe the business model. Other providers shorten that phrase to AaaS.

The model includes an agent, instructions, business knowledge, tools, permissions and a way to review results. These parts let a business assign and supervise a job.

The term gained attention around NVIDIA’s March 2026 GTC keynote. PYMNTS reported Jensen Huang’s prediction that SaaS companies would become GaaS companies as agents took on more work.

Generative AI as a Service describes access to models that create content. Completing a workflow also needs tools, context and controls. GaaS is not a certification or proof of fully autonomous operation.

GaaS can also mean Games as a Service in gaming. This guide uses the term in the context of business AI.

Is SaaS dying? What the evidence shows

The evidence does not support the claim that SaaS is disappearing.

On 26 August 2026, Salesforce reported $10.8 billion in quarterly subscription and support revenue. That was 12% higher year over year and included $440 million from Informatica. One company cannot describe the whole market, but these results challenge the disappearance claim.

NVIDIA’s official GTC coverage described enterprise agents with tools, context and controls for policy enforcement, network access and privacy. Our reading: businesses will increasingly ask whether software can finish a job and show what happened.

An agent may still need your customer relationship management system (CRM), calendar and support software. SaaS can remain the foundation while agents help people work across those systems.

SaaS vs GaaS: key differences

The table compares two ways to organise work. Products can combine them: a SaaS application may include agents, and an agent service may charge a subscription.

Why businesses are exploring AI agents

Microsoft’s 2025 Work Trend Index included a survey of 31,000 workers in 31 countries. It found that 81% of leaders expected agents to be moderately or extensively integrated into their AI strategy within 12 to 18 months.

That figure measures expectations from 2025, not completed deployments in 2026. For your own business, start with a recurring need you can test:

  • Customer questions: answer from current product guides, policies and FAQs.
  • Lead qualification: ask your qualifying questions and collect the details visitors choose to share.
  • Internal training: help colleagues find and understand approved company material.

Example: answering a question and qualifying a lead

Imagine a training company. A visitor asks which course suits a five-person sales team. A colleague would normally find the course guide, explain the options and pass the enquiry to sales.

An AI employee could answer from that guide, ask about the team’s needs and collect the details the visitor chooses to share. With a supported connection and approved action, it could pass the enquiry to another system.

A person should handle an unpublished discount, a contract exception or anything outside the employee’s brief. Check both the conversation and the record your sales team receives.

This is a fictional example to evaluate, not a reported Aivah customer result.

Aivah: hire, train and manage AI employees

Aivah gives you a workspace to hire, train and manage AI employees. Choose a role, add your business knowledge and set instructions. Test the employee’s answers and approved actions before deploying it.

Your team controls the sources, instructions and permissions. Account connections are shared across employees in chat, voice and channels; public web experiences have their own tool selection. Review what is enabled before launch.

A voice and optional visible character help people interact with the employee. Choose a channel that fits the job, then test it where people will use it:

  • Website: use a direct link, embed or chat bubble to answer visitor questions and collect enquiries.
  • Phone: answer inbound calls on your own Twilio number after phone setup.
  • Meetings: give the employee a face and voice in supported video calls.

08

How much does Agents as a Service cost?

There is no single pricing model. Providers may charge subscriptions, usage credits, per-task fees or a mix. Compare the total cost of work your team accepts, including setup and review.

Aivah uses plans and usage credits. Credits are spent when an employee chats, talks or creates. Channels and tools depend on the plan. Aivah does not promise a fixed price for every resolved ticket or accepted lead.

To compare a pilot, divide its total cost by the number of accepted completed tasks. Include time spent correcting answers and handling exceptions. Check the current pricing page for the job you want to run.

What to check before you deploy an AI agent

In June 2025, Gartner predicted that more than 40% of agentic AI projects would be cancelled by the end of 2027. It cited rising costs, unclear value and inadequate risk controls. This is a forecast, not an observed failure rate.

An agent can misunderstand a request, lose access to a tool or give a wrong answer. Keep its knowledge current. Test what happens when information is missing and when a person needs to take over.

Assign someone to own the knowledge, permissions and review process. Expand the employee’s role after you have checked its results.

How to start with one AI employee

Choose one recurring job with clear source material and a result your team can inspect. Keep the first pilot small enough to review every conversation.

  1. Define the job. Write down the request, the expected result and who owns the follow-up.
  2. Prepare the knowledge. Supply current documents, policies and examples of good answers.
  3. Set the boundaries. Choose allowed actions and say when the employee should ask or hand over.
  4. Test real questions. Include missing information, conflicting sources and requests outside the job.
  5. Launch on one channel. Verify the conversation and any resulting record in the destination system.
  6. Review the results. Track accepted work, mistakes, handovers, response time and cost before expanding.

SaaS vs GaaS: frequently asked questions

What does GaaS mean in AI?

In the SaaS-to-GaaS discussion, GaaS is used for Agentic AI as a Service. Aivah frames the business model as Agents as a Service: managed agents with defined jobs, business knowledge, permitted tools and human supervision. Agents as a Service is also abbreviated AaaS; terminology varies across providers.

Will AI agents replace SaaS?

Some manual workflows may move to agents, while SaaS applications continue to store information and provide business functions. Many products can combine both approaches. There is no sound basis for assuming every SaaS application will disappear.

What is the difference between generative AI and agentic AI?

Generative AI produces content such as text or images. Agentic AI uses models within a system that can select steps and use permitted tools toward a goal. Generating a response is one capability; completing a checked workflow requires additional setup and controls.

Is an AI employee the same as a chatbot?

An AI employee is a way to organise an AI system around a defined business role, knowledge, actions and supervision. A chatbot describes a conversational interface. The useful distinction is what the system can reliably do behind that interface.

Does Aivah replace my CRM or existing business software?

Aivah can support conversations and configured actions around your existing tools. Whether a particular workflow works depends on the supported connection, permissions and setup. Confirm the result in the destination system before relying on it.

Can I try Aivah before deploying an AI employee?

Yes. Aivah offers a free starting plan so you can create an employee and test conversations. Plans and credits determine the capacity, channels and tools available when you move toward deployment; check the pricing page for current details.
